This event is open to palliative care clinicians and practitioners, service users, voluntary sector partners, and academics and researchers in supportive and palliative care, end of life care, primary care, nursing, sociology, health psychology, dementia studies, health economics, and elder care.

The programme includes two keynote addresses from Professors Alison Richardson, (Co-director of COMPASS), and Sean Morrison, (Director, National Palliative Care Research Center, Mount Sinai School of Medicine), structured networking, “meet the expert” and plenary sessions from each of the CECo themes plus research partner sessions and poster presentations.

Introduction to Research in Palliative Care Course

This course, to be held at St Christopher's Hospice, Sydenham, London, is designed for those with little prior knowledge of research but who are keen to learn more and to develop their research knowledge and skills.

Aims of the two days:

  • Develop an understanding of research and its relevance to palliative care
  • Identify researchable questions
  • Explore ethical issues in the conduct of research in palliative care
  • Improve skills in writing research proposals

Palliative Care and Long Term Care Settings for Older People: Worldwide Resources (URL Link)
Following a meeting at the European Association of Palliative Care conference in Budapest in June 2007, it was agreed to establish a web resource for people engaged with care provision, education and research in the provision of palliative care nursing homes for older people and other similar long term care settings. This web resource has been established to provide a place where initiatives, information and contacts can be exchanged worldwide.


Palliative Care in Care Home Network (URL Link)
The Palliative Care in Care Home Network is a network for specialist palliative care practitioners, educators and researchers concerned about the development of palliative care in care homes. There is a website where messages can be posted, and resources shared. Face to face meetings are held twice yearly, and details are posted on the website.

Outputs from the second State of the Science Meeting of the CECo Complex Symptoms theme, held in Liverpool on the 10th April, where over 55 delegates attended including research partners, researchers from across the UK, hospice clinicians and specialist registrars in palliative medicine and representatives from primary, secondary and hospice care, can be accessed here.
