Breathlessness Research Seminar (This is an external event, for information only)
A Breathlessness research Seminar is to be held on the 9th December 2008.
It will be an all-day meeting and is aimed at those with an active interest in breathlessness research in advanced disease. Presentations will concentrate on recently completed research or work in progress or questions for future work and include aspects of measurement, interventions for breathlessness and patterns of breathlessness and disease trajectories.

Introduction to Research in Palliative Care Course (This is a general CECo event)
This course, to be held at St Christopher's Hospice, Sydenham, London, is designed for those with little prior knowledge of research but who are keen to learn more and to develop their research knowledge and skills.
Aims of the two days:
- Develop an understanding of research and its relevance to palliative care
- Identify researchable questions
- Explore ethical issues in the conduct of research in palliative care
- Improve skills in writing research proposals

To build evaluation capacity in relation to end of life care services and their outcomes
Objectives:
- To provide a forum for the discussion of a series of related and on-going evaluation studies relating to end of life care improvement strategies
- To allow for critical and supportive review of existing studies and their methodologies
- To benefit from external facilitation by an evaluation expert from the USA
- To explore the potential for an international evaluation network in end of life care research

The CECo research capacity building group are now planning the annual PhD/Postdoc workshop for 2009. In order to develop an interesting programme which meets the current needs of doctoral students and post doctoral researchers we would like their input.

CECo 3rd Annual Scientific Meeting (This is a general CECo event)
This event is open to palliative care clinicians and practitioners, service users, voluntary sector partners, and academics and researchers in supportive and palliative care, end of life care, primary care, nursing, sociology, health psychology, dementia studies, health economics, and elder care.
The programme includes two keynote addresses from Professors Alison Richardson, (Co-director of COMPASS), and Sean Morrison, (Director, National Palliative Care Research Center, Mount Sinai School of Medicine), structured networking, “meet the expert” and plenary sessions from each of the CECo themes plus research partner sessions and poster presentations.

3rd State of the Science Meeting (This item, along with related documentation, can also be found under Complex Symptoms events)
The State of the Science meetings are an excellent way of finding out about the state of the science in symptoms research. At the same time participants have the opportunity to contribute research ideas to the research agenda of the Symptoms Theme and to network with others in the areas. State of the Science meetings are open to everybody and have proved to be extremely popular. In previous years participants have included research partners, doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, medical students, academics and researchers, both from the UK and abroad.
